Name:     Dr. Mary Helen Black
Biography:

I taught at Bishop Montgomery High School for five years, and was Mathematics Department Chair for 3 yrs. Subjects taught include algebra, geometry, advanced algebra, trigonometry, pre-calculus, AP calculus, biology and music studies. I teach biostatistics at California State University Los Angeles, and am also qualified to teach statistics, chemistry, physics and Spanish. I began teaching at Shamrock in 2001, and in addition to regular academic tutoring, I coordinate and teach Shamrock's SAT Prep and HSPT Prep courses.

After finishing a Bachelor of Science degree in biology and philosophy (double major) at St. Mary's College, I earned a Master's degree in biostatistics, and a PhD in statistical genetics and genetic epidemiology from USC's Keck School of Medicine.

I love working with students of all ages and backgrounds, and am a firm believer that any student can maximize his/her potential with enough hard work and encouragement!
